Nationalist Congress Party MP Supriya Sule said on Thursday that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is a fighter and will respond to the notice sent by the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding his comments against Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a "honest and dignified" manner.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "panauti" (bad omen) during a rally in Barmer, Rajasthan, and asserted that India's Sunday World Cup final defeat was due to his presence in the Narendra Modi stadium.
Our boys were so close to winning the World Cup there, but some kind of 'jinx' led to their loss," remarked the Congress leader.Rahul Gandhi was given a show-cause notice by the ECI for his remarks about PM Modi that he made on Saturday night, calling him a "panauti," "Jaibkatra" (a pickpocket), and a loan-waiver.
The notification was sent out the day after the BJP filed a complaint against the Wayanad MP with the poll panel, arguing that the MP's use of language was "unbecoming" of a senior official.
Rahul Gandhi was endorsed by Surpiya Sule, the working president of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, who declared, "He is a strong and honest leader." I have no doubt that he will bravely resist and show no fear of anyone. He is a combatant. He is honest, so he can afford to be fearless."
She blasted the BJP, saying, "There are a lot of instances where the BJP has discussed his family. Why then is it necessary to feel bad if he says something? Even about his wonderful grandfather, they (BJP) had spoken."
In the meantime, Surpiya Sule stated that the people of Rajasthan should choose the party that will govern them for the next five years when discussing the assembly elections.
